Same-Day Crowns in Riverdale

Custom dental crowns designed and placed in a single visit

A traditional crown once meant two appointments, weeks of waiting, and a temporary crown in between. Same-day crown technology changes all of that. Using computer-aided design and in-office milling, Dr. Peter Ioannidis and Dr. Renu Varshney can design, create, and place a custom, natural-looking crown in a single visit. To restore your tooth in one appointment, schedule your visit or call (416) 466-6400.

One-Visit Restoration

What Are Same-Day Crowns?

A dental crown is a custom cap that covers a damaged, decayed, or weakened tooth, restoring its strength, shape, and appearance. Same-day crowns use CAD/CAM technology to design and mill your crown right in our office, so it can be placed during the same appointment.

Instead of taking messy impressions and sending them to an outside lab, we capture a digital scan of your tooth, design the crown on-screen, and mill it from a solid block of tooth-colored ceramic while you wait.

  • A crown designed and placed in one visit
  • No messy impressions — a digital scan instead
  • No temporary crown to wear or worry about
  • Durable, natural-looking ceramic material
  • Precise fit from computer-guided design
Same Quality, Less Waiting

Same-day crowns use strong, aesthetic ceramic and computer-guided precision to deliver a restoration that matches the quality of traditional lab crowns — while sparing you a second appointment, a temporary crown, and weeks of waiting.

The Process

How Same-Day Crowns Are Made

The entire process happens in our office in a single visit, typically completed in a couple of hours:

  • Prepare the tooth: we gently shape the tooth and remove any decay.
  • Digital scan: a small camera captures a precise 3D image — no goopy impression trays.
  • Design: we design your crown on-screen for an exact fit and natural shape.
  • Mill: an in-office milling unit carves your crown from a ceramic block while you wait.
  • Place: we check the fit and color, then bond the finished crown to your tooth.
When a Same-Day Crown Is Ideal

Same-day crowns are excellent for restoring cracked, worn, or heavily filled teeth and for completing treatment after a root canal. In some complex cases a traditional lab-made crown may still be recommended — we'll advise you on the best option for your tooth.

What to Expect

Your Same-Day Crown Appointment, Step by Step

From start to finish, your new crown is completed in a single visit. Here is what to expect:

  1. 1. Exam and preparation. We confirm a crown is the right treatment, numb the tooth for comfort, and gently shape it to receive the crown.
  2. 2. Digital impression. We scan your tooth with a small camera to create a precise 3D model — no uncomfortable impression trays.
  3. 3. On-screen design. Using the scan, we design your crown for an exact fit, natural shape, and proper bite.
  4. 4. In-office milling. Our milling unit carves your crown from a solid ceramic block while you relax in the office.
  5. 5. Fitting and bonding. We check the fit and color, make any fine adjustments, and permanently bond the finished crown to your tooth.
Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Same-Day Crowns

Same-day crowns are custom dental crowns designed, milled, and placed in a single visit using CAD/CAM technology. Instead of two appointments and a temporary crown, you leave the same day with your permanent restoration.

Yes. Same-day crowns use strong, tooth-colored ceramic and computer-guided precision to deliver quality comparable to traditional lab-made crowns — with the added benefit of completing treatment in one visit.

The full process — preparing the tooth, scanning, designing, milling, and placing the crown — typically takes a couple of hours in a single visit, depending on the tooth.

No. Because your permanent crown is made and placed the same day, there's no need for a temporary crown or a second appointment.

Yes. The ceramic is selected to match the color of your surrounding teeth, and the crown is designed for a natural shape, so it blends seamlessly with your smile.

With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, high-quality ceramic crowns can last many years, comparable to traditional crowns. Avoiding habits like chewing ice or grinding helps them last longer.

Most teeth needing a crown are good candidates, but some complex cases may be better served by a traditional lab-made crown. We'll evaluate your tooth and recommend the best approach.
